About the book:

This is my second book titled “The Art of Sketching. A Guide to Developing Artistic Drawing Skills to Successfully Pass the Entrance Exam for Art High Schools or the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland.”.

This book is a textbook. I dedicate it to artistically talented individuals planning to take the entrance exam for a state art high school or the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland. In the book, I share knowledge on how to learn to sketch. The ability to sketch is the foundation for developing manual artistic skills, which, in turn, are essential for passing the entrance artistic exam.

Every year, thousands of people in Poland take entrance exams for art schools. Most of these individuals are not adequately prepared for the entrance exams. This is because no subject in primary or secondary school prepares young people for such exams. Children and young people are not even aware that art requires professional study.

The school textbook market in Poland lacks books that present the range of skills necessary to pass the art entrance exam. This textbook fills that niche. The book is designed for self-study in artistic sketching. It consists of two parts. Part one contains two theoretical chapters on sketching techniques and methods, and Part two is a gallery of my drawings, along with their descriptions. In essence, this textbook is an album. Art is best learned through examples of works that serve as inspiration.

I have created the book with an artistic graphic design. I designed it according to the principle of the golden ratio, common in book design in the old days. This graphic design perfectly captures the spirit of the book, as its subject matter is a classic art form: drawing.

I demonstrate the principle of the golden ratio in book page design in the attached graphics: the book cover design and the title page design. The page's printable area is defined by a frame with a red edge, and this frame area is defined by the golden ratio, shown here with green lines. Of course, extending design elements beyond the frame is not a mistake. It's important to consciously apply good design principles.
