The illustrations from the “Evviva l'arte” cycle, digital painting, 2011-2014. The inspiration for the creation of these works was the “Evviva l'arte!” poem by Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer from 1894. The illustrations depict me with a painting palette. My other hand, holding the palette, is also visible. These works are my mental self-portraits. The illustrations are created using photomontages using two of my photographic self-portraits and digital painting (Adobe Photoshop CS4).
Evviva l'arte!
(…)
Evviva l'arte! Pride is our god,
Glory is our sun, we, kings without land!
We may starve to death somewhere beneath the threshold,
But like eagles with broken wings –
So go ahead! What is worth anything but fame?
Evviva l'arte!
Evviva l'arte! In our breasts burn
Fires placed by God himself:
So we look at the crowd with our heads held high,
We will not give laurels for a golden crown,
And though our lives are worthless:
Evviva l'arte!
